Commonwealth Games 2026 : India’s Position
India finished 4th at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, achieving several landmark firsts.
- During the closing ceremony, India officially took over as the host nation for the landmark centenary 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, with Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra receiving the Commonwealth Flag and Jaismine Lamboria, who clinched the women’s 57kg boxing gold, led the Indian contingent as the flag bearer during the closing ceremony.
- India finished the campaign with 39 medals (13 Gold, 17 Silver, and 9 Bronze), securing the 4th position globally behind Australia, England, and Canada.
- Achieved the feat despite competing with a reduced contingent of 122 athletes following doping-related eligibility restrictions, and the exclusion of traditional medal-rich sports such as shooting, wrestling, badminton, hockey, and table tennis, which had contributed 25 of India’s 61 medals at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Major Success: - Javelin: Neeraj Chopra returned to the Commonwealth Games with a silver medal in men’s javelin throw, after missing Birmingham 2022.
- Judo Breakthroughs: Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh scripted history by becoming India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medalists in Judo.
- Decathlon Success: Tejaswin Shankar became the first Indian to win a CWG medal in the decathlon, securing a bronze.
- Double Medalist: Track and field athlete Gulveer Singh emerged as India’s sole double medalist in Glasgow, securing a silver in the men’s 10,000m and a bronze in the 5,000m.
- Hat-trick: Mirabai Chanu became the first Indian weightlifter to win three consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medals, securing her historic titles at the Gold Coast 2018, Birmingham 2022, and Glasgow 2026 games.
