The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) (Amendment) Rules, 2026:

The Department of Consumer Affairs notified the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) (Amendment) Rules, 2026, tightening norms on dark patterns, search manipulation, price transparency and grievance redressal from January 1, 2027.A regulatory update notified under the statutory framework of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, amending the primary Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 to govern both marketplace and inventory-based digital commerce entities operating in India. Aim is to address emerging deceptive practices in the digital economy, enhance marketplace transparency and algorithmic accountability, institutionalize robust grievance redressal, and balance consumer welfare with Ease of Doing Business (EoDB).
