World Tourism Day 2026:

World Tourism Day 2026 was observed on 27th September 2026 under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism”, highlighting the role of technology in shaping the future of tourism.
- World Tourism Day is an initiative of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). It was first observed in 1980 to highlight the contribution of tourism to socio-economic development, cultural exchange and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- 27 September was selected to commemorate the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes in 1970. The timing also coincides with the end of the peak tourism season in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of the tourism season in the Southern Hemisphere.
- India’s World Tourism Day Initiatives 2026:
- National Digital Tourism Stack: An open digital public infrastructure launched to improve the discoverability, accessibility and trustworthiness of tourism offerings.
- Dekho Apna Desh 2.0: An initiative aimed at promoting lesser-known destinations and ensuring balanced distribution of tourist footfall.
- Industry Partnerships: The Ministry of Tourism entered into MoUs with industry organisations to promote destination visibility, digital outreach, experiential tourism, sustainable tourism and community participation under the Incredible India framework.
