Centre Reconstitutes 8 Cabinet Committees:

  • The Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government reconstituted 8 Cabinet Committees of the Union Cabinet after being sworn in for the record third consecutive time.
  • There are a total 72 members of the Union Council Minister, including the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi. Of which 31 are of Cabinet rank and they are part of the newly reconstituted Cabinet sub-committees.

The Government of India Hosted the “Global IndiaAI Summit” :

  • The Government of India hosted the ‘Global IndiaAI Summit’ on July 3-4, 2024, in New Delhi (1)The Government of India (GoI) hosted the “Global IndiaAI Summit” on July 3rd to 4th July at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Delhi.
  • The summit was organised by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), GoI.
  • The summit aimed to foster collaboration and the knowledge exchange among global AI stakeholders, which reflects India’s unwavering commitment to the responsible development, deployment, and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.

NITI Aayog Launches Sampoornata Abhiyan Campaign for Development of Aspirational Districts & Blocks:

  • NITI Aayog(National Institution for Transforming India) launched the‘Sampoornata Abhiyan(Completeness Campaign)’, a 3-month campaign, with an aim to achieve 100% saturation of 12 key social sector indicators across all Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks (6 each).
  • Campaign Period: 4th July 2024 to 30th September 2024.

Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich lead Global Costliest Cities:

  • According to the Mercer’s latest ”Cost of Living City Ranking 2024” report, Mumbai (Maharashtra) emerged as the costliest city in India, compared to all the Indian cities featured in the report.
  • Overall, Mumbai has secured 136th spot in the report, up by 11spots compared to 2023.

CNS Dinesh K Tripathi of Indian Navy Visited Bangladesh from July 1 to 4:

  • Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Indian Navy (IN) made an official 4-day visit to Bangladesh from 1 to 4 July 2024, to consolidate the bilateral defence engagement and explore new areas of maritime cooperation.
  • The Bangladesh Navy signed a contract with India’s Garden Reach Shipbuilding and Engineers Ltd (GRSE), for constructing a ‘Made in India’ 800 tons Ocean Going Tug, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Republic of Belarus officially became the 10th permanent member of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), a Eurasian political, economic, international security and defence organization:

  • During the 24th SCO Council of Heads of State (SCO-CHS) Summit held in Astana, Kazakhstan on 4th July 2024, the leaders of SCO member countries signed a resolution of the SCO CHS and finalised the admission of Belarus and conferred the full member status.
  • The Republic of Kazakhstan, the 2024 Chair of the SCO, hosted the 24th SCO-CHS Summit in Astana, capital city of Kazakhstan from 3rd to 4th July, 2024.
  • Theme: “Strengthening Multilateral Dialogue- Striving for Sustainable Peace and Development”.

SBI Unveils 11 New Initiatives on its 69th Foundation Day:

  • The State Bank of India (SBI) announced 11 new initiatives to enhance the banking experience for its customers and widen the bank’s accessibility.
  • These initiatives span digital advancements, improved customer services, and specialized products for different segments.

The world’s most endangered marine mammal, the vaquita, is teetering on the edge of extinction:

  • The vaquita is a shy member and the smallest of the porpoise family.
  • Scientific Name: Phocoena sinus

According to satellite pictures, China’s military is preparing for the long haul in the area surrounding Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh:

  • Pangong Lake, also known as Pangong Tso, is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m (14,270 ft).

Kaziranga National Park : In News

  • The devastating flood in Assam’s famed Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has claimed the lives of 114 wild animals, while 95 others have been rescued recently.
  • Kaziranga National Park is situated in the north-eastern part of the country in the districts of Golaghat and Nagoan in the state of Assam.

Two new species of litter-dwelling jumping spiders from the evergreen forests of the southern Western Ghats have been found by researchers from Christ College, Irinjalakuda:

  • The newly discovered species, Habrocestum swaminathan and Habrocestum benjamin, which have been added to the illustrious roster of the genus Habrocestum.

Indian “Iron-Dome” Akash Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) is competing against Chinese-made Sky Dragon-50 air defense systems to secure an order from Brazil:

  • Akash Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) is a Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile system to protect vulnerable areas and vulnerable points from air attacks.

Italy’s Mount Etna and the smaller Stromboli volcano spewed hot ash and lava, raising alert levels on the Mediterranean island of Sicily:

Defence officials said that the prototype of the country’s indigenous light tank Zorawar is ready and will soon be subjected to extensive trials:
