Climate Change Poses Challenges For Monetary Policy: RBI
- Frequent weather shocks caused by climate change pose challenges for monetary policy as well as downside risks to economic growth, a Reserve Bank report said.
- Global average temperatures are on the rise, with an accompanying increase in extreme weather events, and the economic and social impact of global warming is becoming increasingly evident, said RBI’s Monetary Policy.
Girl Child Empowerment Mission (GEM):
- NTPC Limited, India’s largest power company, is set to unveil a new version of its flagship corporate social responsibility initiative, the Girl Child Empowerment Mission (GEM).
- This program aligns with the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child) campaign launched by the Government of India.
Hepatitis B and C Cases Worldwide:
- The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) 2024 Global Hepatitis Report reveals that India is second only to China in the number of Hepatitis B and C infections, with 3.5 crore cases.
- Hepatitis, characterized by liver inflammation, poses significant health risks and can be fatal.
India Invokes Peace Clause for Fifth Consecutive Time at WTO:
- India has once again utilized the peace clause at the World Trade Organization (WTO) for the fifth consecutive time, citing rice subsidies exceeding the prescribed limit during the 2022-23 marketing year.
KABIL and CSIR-IMMT Forge Alliance for Critical Minerals Advancement:
- Khanij Bidesh India Limited (KABIL) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Technical & Knowledge cooperation.

India becomes Net Importer of Finished Steel in FY24:
- India imported 8.319 Million Metric Tons (MnT) of finished steel in FY24, up 38.1% from FY23 when it was 6.022 MnT amid strong demand from construction and automotive sectors.

- According to the 6th edition of “Global Unicorn Index 2024”report published by Hurun Institute, India is ranked at 3rd position in the index with 67 unicorns(down to 1 compared to 2023).

- The United Nations(UN) Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) has unanimously appointed Saudi Arabia to chair its 69th session in 2025.
General Insurance industry grows 12.78% in FY24:
- According to data released by the General Insurance Council (GIC), the General Insurance industry experienced a growth of 12.78% in the Fiscal Year 2023-24 (FY24) reaching their Gross direct premium underwritten to Rs 2,89,731 crore from Rs 2,56,894 crore in FY23.
SBI & Standard Chartered Bank carried out the First Credit Default Swap Trade under new RBI Guidelines:
- The State Bank of India (SBI) and Standard Chartered Bank India carried out the Credit Default Swap (CDS) trade worth Rs 25 crore.
- This marks the 1st CDS transaction since the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued revised CDS guidelines in 2022.
