  • NITI Aayog launches two initiatives to foster innovationOn 10th June 2024, National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) launched the “AIM-ICDK Water Challenge 4.0” and the 5th edition of “Innovations for You” under its flagship program, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM).

IRDAI Master Circular: Policy Loan Facility Mandated in All Life Insurance Savings Products; CIS to Simplify Policy Details

  • The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) in its Master Circular on Life Insurance Products, has mandated insurance companies to offer a policy loan facility across all life insurance savings products, effective from 30 September 2024, to help policyholders meet liquidity needs.

BoM Makes NRI Banking Easier with its NRI Banking Solutions:

  • Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) provides Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Banking solutions in the form of various deposit accounts, namely Non-Resident External (NRE) , Non-Resident Ordinary (NRO), Foreign Currency Non-Resident (FCNR) and Resident Foreign Currency (RFC), each designed specifically to make NRI banking easier and reliable.

CII Estimates India’s GDP to Grow at 8% in 2024; Inflation Likely to Remain within RBI’s 4% Target:

  • The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) estimated that India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth at 8% in 2024.
  • It has underscored that policy interventions, specifically which aimed to improve the Ease of Doing of Business (EODB), have significantly contributed to strengthen the Indian Economy.

UBS Securities India: India to Maintain 6.5-7% Y-o-Y GDP Growth between FY26 & FY30

  • According to UBS Securities India Pvt Ltd, a stockbroker and merchant banking company, India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to sustain a potential growth rate of 6.5% – 7% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) between FY 2025-26 (FY26) and FY 2029-30 (FY30).

TCS, HDFC, Airtel and Infosys: Indian Firms Among World’s Top 100 Most Valuable Brands in Kantar BrandZ:

  • According to the Kantar BrandZ, “2024 World’s Most Valuable Brands” report, 4 Indian companies namely, Tata Consultancy Service (TCS), HDFC Bank, Airtel and Infosys were featured among the top 100 most valuable global brands.

SEBI Bags ‘Best Conduct of Business Regulator’ Award in Asia Pacific by The Asian Banker:

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has been honoured with the ‘Best Conduct of Business Regulator‘ Award in the Asia Pacific by the Asian Banker for its focus on transparency, fairness, and investor protection in the securities markets in India.
  • Kamlesh Chandra Varshney, Whole Time Member of SEBI received the award at the ceremony held during the Asian Banker Summit 2024 held on 23 May 2024 in Hong Kong.
  • The theme of the summit was “Bridging innovation and resilience in finance”.

International Day of Family Remittances 2024:

AI Tool ‘Divya Drishti’:

  • A woman-led start-up has successfully developed an AI-based tool that creates a “robust and multi-faceted authentication system” by combining facial recognition with gait analysis.
  • This innovative solution marks a “significant advancement” in biometric authentication technology, offering “enhanced accuracy and reliability”.

WHO Recognises 3rd Indian Institute For Traditional Medicine Research:

  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) has designated the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH) in Hyderabad, under the Ministry of Ayush, as a WHO Collaborating Centre (CC) for traditional medicine research.

Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh:

  • Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan was named the Deputy Chief Minister in a highly-anticipated move by the Andhra Pradesh government on June 14.

Joshimath is now Jyotirmath Again:

  • The mythological city of Joshimath in Uttarakhand has been officially renamed as Jyotirmath. The decision was announced by the state government after getting approval from the Centre.

Donanemab : New Alzheimer’s Drug

  • A new Alzheimer’s drug, donanemab, has received support from an FDA advisory committee, moving closer to approval.

  • A large mob from the Satnami community in Chhattisgarh’s Baloda Bazar district attacked the Superintendence of Police (SP) office, over the alleged desecration of a ‘jaitkhamb’ (victory pillar, a sacred structure for the Satnami community).

Centre Has Proposed Eco-sensitive Areas:

  • Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa, three of the six states where the Centre has proposed eco-sensitive areas (ESAs) to protect the Western Ghats have requested a reduction in the extent of these ESAs to permit development projects.

  • The army has got its first indigenous man-portable suicide drones that are designed to target enemy training camps, launch pads and infiltrators with precision, without endangering the lives of soldiers.

  • As the US heads for a presidential election in November, the Federal Reserve, the country’s central bank, has signaled that it is unwilling to let interest rates soften in a hurry.

Kavli Prize 2024:

  • ASTROPHYSICS: This year’s prize for astrophysics has been awarded to David Charbonneau, and Sara Seager for discoveries of exoplanets, and the characterisation of their atmosphere.
  • NANOSCIENCE: Robert Langer, Armand Paul Alivisatos, and Chad Mirkin were given the prize for nanoscience for biomedical applications breakthroughs.
  • NEUROSCIENCE: The prize in neuroscience has been awarded to Nancy Kanwisher, Winrich Freiwald, and Doris Tsao for their collective effort over decades to map the linkage between facial recognition and the brain.
