Asteroid 2024 LZ4 :

• It is about 72 feet wide, which is about the size of an airplane.
• Because of its size, it is not very scary.
• It will be only 173,000 miles away from Earth as it travels at 77,109 kilometers per hour (21.42 kilometers per second).
• This is compared to the usual distance between Earth and the Moon, which is about 239,000 miles (485 km).

IMD & ONAMET of Dominican Republic Signed MoU to Enhance Meteorological Capabilities:

• India and Dominican Republic strengthen meteorological capabilities with new agreement India Meteorological Department(IMD), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences(MoES), Government of India(GoI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Meteorological Office (Oficina Nacional de Meteorología – ONAMET) of the Dominican Republic.

Environment Performance Index 2024:

• According to the 2024 Environment Performance Index (EPI), India is ranked 176th out of 180 countries with an EPI score of 27.6, surpassing only Pakistan, Viet Nam, Laos, and Myanmar.
• Estonia topps the 2024 EPI with an EPI score of 75.3 followed by Luxembourg and Germany at 2nd and 3rd spot.

India Becomes the Most Represented Nation in THE University Impact Rankings 2024:

• India has become the most represented nation in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings 2024 with 96 entries.
• Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu(TN), ranked 81st, tops among the Indian Universities featured on the list.

UNHCR Report: Forced Displacement Rose to 120 Million by the End of April 2024:

• The report titled “Global Trends Forced Displacement in 2023” published by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR), states that the forced displacement has increased to 120 million by the end of April 2024.

Karnataka Bank Launched KBL WISE Senior Citizen Savings Account:

• Karnataka Bank Limited (KBL), a leading private sector bank launched KBL WISE (Wellness Investments and Savings for Elderly) Senior Citizen Savings Account, designed specifically to cater the needs of senior citizens regarding banking, healthcare and wellness.

PFRDA Selected NEC Corp India Private Limited as System Integrator:

• The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) selected NEC Corporation India Private Limited (formerly known as NEC Technologies India Pvt. Ltd.) as System Integrator (SI) for a period of 6 years. It will play pivotal role in digital transformation journey of PFRDA.

Neobanking Startup Jupiter Money Receives Final Approval from RBI for issuance of PPI:

• Jupiter Money, a neobanking FinTech Startup backed by Tiger Global and Peak XV, has received final approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to issue Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) including prepaid cards and prepaid wallets.

Cyril Ramaphosa Re-elected as President of South Africa for 2nd Term:

• The South African Parliament re-elected Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa(71 year old) as the President of the Republic of South Africa for 2nd term.
• He will be inaugurated on 19th June 2024.
• Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of African National Congress (ANC) party, secured 283 votes in the 400 member house against Julius Malema, of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), who received just 44 votes.

Reliances’ JPL JV Orbit Connect India Received Approval from IN-SPACe to Launch Satellite Internet in India:

• Orbit Connect India, Joint Venture (JV) between Reliance Industries’ Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) and Luxembourg-based satellite telecommunications company, SES has received 3 approvals from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) for secured landing rights and market access to operate satellites above India.

Global Wind Day 2024 – June 15:

• Global Wind Day also known as the World Wind Day is annually observed across the globe on 15 June to highlight the significance of Wind Energy, an alternative clean and renewable energy system in promoting sustainability and environmental protection, and its power.
• Global Wind Day is a coordinated action annually organised by WindEurope, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), and national renewable energy associations.

India’s Wholesale Prices Accelerate to 15-Month High of 2.61% in May:

• India’s wholesale inflation, measured by the wholesale price index (WPI), surged to a 15-month high of 2.61% in May from 1.26% in April, driven by an adverse base effect and a sharp increase in food prices.

Madhya Pradesh CM Inaugurates PM Shri Tourism Air Service From Bhopal:

• Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav launched an intra-State air service to promote tourism on June 13 from Raja Bhoj International Airport in the state capital Bhopal.
• It is called ‘PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva’ and the first flight was flagged off from the capital Bhopal to Jabalpur.

G7 Agrees $50bn Loan for Ukraine Using Russian Assets:

• The G7 has agreed to leverage frozen Russian assets to secure a $50 billion loan for Ukraine to aid in its defense against Russian invasion.
• US President Joe Biden emphasized this move as a firm stance against Russia, while President Vladimir Putin condemned it as theft.

Mitigation Work Programme:

• The road to the COP29 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku appears bumpy after the mid-year climate talks in Bonn, Germany concluded on June 13, with little progress, according to researchers from the Centre for Science and Environment.

• The central government has given a year-long extension to the Digital Health Incentive Scheme (DHIS) meant for digitising patients’ health records and linking them with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Health Account (ABHA ID).
