MoJS launched E-flows Monitoring System to Monitor Ganga River Cleanup process:

  • Union Minister, C.R. Patil, Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) launched the Environmental flows (E-flows) Monitoring System to monitor the cleaning progress of the river Ganga.
  • It was launched during a programme when the Union Minister was reviewing the progress of the cleaning projects under the Namami Ganga Mission in New Delhi, Delhi.

IEP’ Global Peace Index 2024:

  • According to the 18th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2024 released by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), India is ranked 116th out of 163 countries, climbing 10 positions from 2023.
  • The list is topped by Iceland since 2008 followed by Ireland(2nd), Austria(3rd), New Zealand(4th), and Singapore(5th).

India Develops 4% of Global Antibacterial Agents :

  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) released its annual report titled “2023 Antibacterial agents in clinical and preclinical development: an overview and analysis”.
  • The report evaluates the pipeline of antibacterial agents, including antibiotics, in clinical and preclinical development across the world.

Gautam Adani Meets Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay; Signed MoU to Establish 570 MW Hydroelectric Plant

  • Gautam Adani meets Bhutan PM Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, met with Dasho Tshering Tobgay,
  • The Prime Minister (PM) of Bhutan and announced the signing of an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) for a 570 Megawatt (MW) green hydro plant in the Chukha province, Bhutan.

MEA & SBI Signed MoU to Enhance Digital Payment Services for Users eMigrate Portal:

  • The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India (GoI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI) to provide additional digital payment services of the SBI through SBIePay, a payment gateway, to the Indian migrant workers, Recruiting Agents (RAs) and other users of the eMigrate portal.
  • The MoU will come into effect after the successful integration of SBIePay, the payment gateway of SBI with the eMigrate portal.

RBI Imposes Rs 1.45 Cr Penalty on Central Bank of India:

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1,45,50,000 on the Central Bank of India (CBI) for non-compliance with specific directives issued by RBI on ‘Loans and Advances – Statutory and Other Restrictions’ and ‘Customer Protection – Limiting Liability of Customers in Unauthorised Electronic Banking Transactions’.

Sahitya Akademi Announced Yuva Puraskar, Bal Sahitya Puraskar Winners for 2024:

  • The Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture chaired by Madhav Kaushik, President, Sahitya Akademi declared a list of 24 recipients of its Bal Sahitya Puraskar and 23 winners of its Yuva Puraskar for the year 2024.

Wildlife Filmmaker Shri Subbiah Nallamuthu Won V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award at 18th MIFF:

  • Subbiah Nallamuthu, a renowned wildlife filmmaker from Chennai(Tamil Nadu) was honoured with the Dr V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award during the inauguration of the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF 2024).
  • The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a trophy, and a citation.

Former Odisha Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare Passed Away:

  • Former Governor of Odisha Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare passed away at the age of 95 in New Delhi, Delhi.
  • He was born on 10 December 1928 in Bombay, Bombay Presidency, British India (now Mumbai, Maharashtra).

Alpana Killawala Authored a Memoir titled “A Fly on the RBI Wall”:

  • Alpana Killawala, a former spokesperson for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has authored a memoir titled ‘A Fly on the RBI Wall: An Insider’s View of the Central Bank’, offering an insightful glimpse into her journey and the RBI’s transformation over 25 years.
  • The book is published by Rupa Publications India.

International Day of Family Remittances 2024:

  • The United Nations (UN)’s International Day of Family Remittances (IDFR) is annually observed across the globe on 16 June to honour the dedication of millions of migrants who support their families and communities through remittances.
  • The theme of the IDFR 2023–2024 #FamilyRemittances campaign is, “Digital Remittances Towards Financial Inclusion and Cost Reduction.”

World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2024:

  • The United Nations (UN)’s World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (WDCDD) is annually observed across the globe on 17 June to raise awareness and combat international issues linked to Desertification, Land Degradation, and Drought (DLDD).

India to Host Its First Multinational Air Exercise Tarang Shakti:

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to make history this August by hosting its first-ever multinational air exercise, Tarang Shakti-2024.
  • The exercise is slated to be held in two phases, with the initial phase commencing in the first two weeks of August in southern India.

RBI Cancels Purvanchal Cooperative Bank’s Licence:

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revoked the licence of Purvanchal Co-operative Bank, located in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, citing inadequate capital and bleak earning prospects.

RBI Penalizes Central Bank of India and Sonali Bank PLC for Violations:

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed fines on Central Bank of India and Sonali Bank PLC for breaches related to customer protection and KYC norms.
  • Central Bank of India faces a penalty of ₹1.45 crore for irregularities including improper sanctioning of loans and delays in reversing unauthorized transactions.

  • In a thrilling final at the BWF Australian Open 2024 in Sydney on Sunday (16 June), Lee Zii Jia from Malaysia emerged victorious against Naraoka Kodai of Japan, securing his second title of the season.

India Participates in the Summit on Peace in Ukraine:

  • Shri Pavan Kapoor, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, represented India at the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, hosted by Switzerland at Burgenstock on June 15-16, 2024.
  • India attended the Opening and Closing Plenary Sessions of the Summit but did not align itself with any communique or document that emerged.

Israeli Navy Receives Second of New US-Built Landing Craft:

  • The Israeli Navy on June 16, received the second of two new landing craft from a shipyard in the United States, with the vessel mooring at the Haifa Naval Base after making a lengthy voyage to the country.
