- The Government has appointed Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM, presently serving as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, as the next Chief of the Naval Staff with effect from the afternoon of April 30, 2024.
RBI imposes Rs 60.3 lakh penalty on five co-operative banks:
- A penalty of Rs 43.30 lakh has been imposed on Rajkot Nagarik Sahakari Bank for non-compliance with RBI directions on ‘ban on loans and advances to directors and their relatives, and firms/concerns in which they are interested’.
3rd largest silver producer globally:
- Vedanta group firm Hindustan Zinc said it has become the third largest producer of silver globally.
- As per a survey, its Sindesar Khurd Mine in Rajasthan now stands as the world’s second-largest silver-producing mine, moving up from last year’s fourth spot, the company said in a statement.

India’s Electronics Exports Surge to $29.12 Billion in FY24:
- India’s electronics industry experienced a notable surge in exports, reaching $29.12 billion in fiscal year 2023-24, a substantial 23.6% increase from the previous year.
- This growth is particularly significant amid an overall contraction of the country’s total exports by 3%.

India’s GDP growth at 6.5% in 2024:
- UNCTAD forecasts India’s GDP growth at 6.5% in 2024, a slight deceleration from the previous year’s 6.7%.
- This projection aligns with the IMF’s revised forecast, attributing growth to strong public investment and the services sector.

CBDT signs record number of 125 Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs) in FY24:
- In Financial Year 2023-24 (FY24), the CBDT set a record by signing 125 Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs) with Indian taxpayers, comprising 86 Unilateral APAs (UAPAs) and 39 Bilateral APAs (BAPAs).
- This marks a 31% increase from 95 APAs in FY23 and the highest number of APAs signed in any financial year since its inception, bringing the total to 641 comprising 506 UAPAs and 135 BAPAs.
IFSCA constitutes committee to transform GIFT City into Climate Finance Hub:
- The International Financial Centres Authority(IFSCA) constituted a standing committee to prepare a framework for launching climate finance products.
- The committee aims to transform GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City) into a climate finance hub.
- The committee is expected to submit its report to the government by the end of May 2024.
