National Mathematics Day 2023:
- Every year, on December 22nd, India marks National Mathematics Day to honor the birthday of the famous Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan.
The Award of Excellence for inclusivity & access to a broader community:
- UNESCO has awarded the resilient urban revitalization of Rambagh Gate and Ramparts in Punjab, as well as the heritage conservation projects related to Haryana’s Church of Epiphany and Delhi’s Bikaner House.
New President of the Wrestling Federation of India:
- Sanjay Singh has been elected the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
- Singh is the vice president of the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association and previously served on the WFI’s executive council.
- He has also been the national federation’s joint secretary since 2019.
Parliament passes ‘Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023’:
- The Lok Sabha passed the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023. It repealed the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867.
- The Bill has already been passed by the Rajya Sabha in the Monsoon Session.
Parliament passes ‘Telecommunications Bill, 2023:
- It will transform and reform the telecom sector, services, and its networks.
- The Bill seeks to amend and consolidate the law relating to the development, expansion, and operation of telecom services.
National Program on Anganwadi-cum-Crèches :
- Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated the National Program on Anganwadi-cum-Crèches in New Delhi.
- The government has planned to open 17 thousand creches all around the country and urged states and district officials to identify groups of women construction workers and women farm laborers who can take advantage of the initiative.
SHG Banking Services:
- The Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM) has forged a strategic alliance with the State Bank of India (SBI).
- The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two entities aims to provide comprehensive banking services to the SHGs operating in the state.
Draft Framework for Self-Regulatory Organisations (SROs) in Banking and NBFCs:
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a preliminary framework for self-regulatory organizations (SROs) aimed at overseeing banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), and other entities under its regulatory purview.

- Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (CGCEL), a leading player in India’s consumer electrical industry, has been honored with the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award 2023.

- The Ministry of Finance has granted a one-time exemption to Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) regarding the 25% Minimum Public Shareholding (MPS) rule.

- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to increase its liquidity infusion into the banking system through the 7-day variable rate repo (VRR) auction on December 22.
