- Harshal Patel of Punjab Kings (PBKS) won the Purple Cap, taking 24 wickets.
- Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Virat Kohli claimed the Orange Cap with 741 runs.

Dipa Karmakar clinches India’s first-ever gold medal in women’s pole vault at the Asian Championships in Tashkent:
- Dipa Karmakar scripted history clinching India’s first-ever gold medal at the Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
- The 30-year-old Olympian registered an average score of 13.566 in the women’s Vault final.
- This is the first time that an Indian gymnast has won a gold medal in any event at the Asian Championships.
CBDT notifies Cost Inflation Index for the financial year 2024- 25:
- The Central Board of Direct Taxes, CBDT has notified the Cost Inflation Index, CII for the financial year 2024- 25 for calculating long-term capital gains.
- The CII for the financial year 2024-25, relevant to the assessment year 2025-26, stood at 363. The Cost Inflation Index is used by taxpayers to compute gains arising out of the sale of capital assets after adjusting inflation.
First-ever Grand Prix Award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival:
- Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia made history by winning the country’s first-ever Grand Prix Award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
- Her Malayalam-Hindi film All We Imagine As Light stars Kani Kusruti and Divya Prabha as nurses working in Mumbai.
- The movie also stars Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon.
RBI Imposes Rs 3.1 Lakh Penalty on Hero FinCorp for Fair Practices Code Violation:
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 3.1 lakh on Hero FinCorp Limited due to non-compliance with certain provisions of the fair practices code.
Maldives Plans Launch of RuPay to Enhance Bilateral Ties with India:
- The strengthening ties between India and the Maldives, the island nation has announced its intention to launch India’s RuPay service. This decision underscores the growing economic and financial cooperation between the two countries.
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Brand Ambassador:
- The International Cricket Council (ICC), the global governing body of cricket, has appointed the legendary Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi as the brand ambassador for the upcoming 9th ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Unemployment Rate:
- Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) for 15-29 year age group for January-March, 2024 Quarter for FY24(2023-24).
- As per PLFS, Kerala topped youth unemployment rate among 15-29 age group at 31.8% for Q4 (Jan-March) FY24.
MHA Constituted High-Powered Committee to Tackle Increasing Cybercrimes Originating From SE Asian Region:
- Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) constituted a inter-ministerial committee of various law enforcement and intelligence agencies to tackle the increasing organised cybercrimes originating from South-East (SE) Asian countries like: Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos PDR.
- SE Asian region accounted for 45% of cyber financial frauds taking place in India.
Ex Cyber Suraksha 2024:
- The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan attended ‘Exercise Cyber Suraksha 2024’, highlighting the critical importance of enhancing India’s cyber defence capabilities.
- The exercise has been conducted by the Defence Cyber Agency from 20th to 24th May 2024 in New Delhi (Delhi), aiming to develop Cyber Defence Capability of all Cyber security organisations and promote cooperation amongst all stakeholders.
- It also focuses on enhancing collaboration and integration among participants from various military and major national organisations.
SEBI Amends Framework for Dynamic Price Bands for Scrips in Derivatives Segment:
- The market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has amended its guidelines on dynamic price bands for scrips in the derivatives segment in order to improve uncertainty in management and reduce information disproportion.
BSE: Market Capitalisation to GDP Ratio Records 15-year High of 140.2%
- According to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) data, India’s market capitalization to Gross Domestic Product ratio (mcap-to-GDP) has recorded growth of 15-year high of 140.2%.
- This increase is significantly higher compared to 95.8% at the end of March 2023.
Former Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha Appointed as Non-Executive Part-Time Chairman Of ICICI BanK:
- The former Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha has been appointed as the Non-Executive Part-time Chairman of ICICI Bank Limited.
- He will succeed Girish Chandra Chaturvedi who is set to retire from the post on 30th June 2024.
- He will take over the position with effect from July 1, 2024, for a three–year term as per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approval.
IAF Conducted Night Vision Goggled-aided Landing of C-130J Aircraft in Eastern Sector:
- Indian Air Force (IAF)’s C-130J Super Hercules tactical transport aircraft successfully carried out a Night Vision Goggles(NVG)-aided landing at the Kargil airstrip, Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in the Eastern sector(close to the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan).
Asian Relay Championships 2024:
- Indian mixed 4x400m team wins gold and men’s and women’s 4x400m teams win silver medals
- The India’s mixed 4×400 relay team has set a national record by winning a gold medal at the inaugural edition of Asian Relay Championships 2024 while the men’s and women’s 4×400 teams secured silver medals.

- Gopi Thotakura, an India-born commercial pilot based in the US, became the first space tourist from India.
- She, along with five other space tourists, made a short recreational trip to space.

- The Ministry of Renewable Energy recently issued a warning to farmers on PM-KUSUM website against fake websites and mobile applications that provide fake online application forms and demand registration fees for installing solar water pumps under PM Kusum scheme.

- The Pre-packaged Insolvency Resolution Process (PPIRP) has resulted in the full settlement of operational creditors’ claims in five cases.
- Pre-packaged Insolvency Resolution Process was introduced in April 2021 in the wake of Covid pandemic, to deal with stress of small and mid-sized companies.
Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve:
- The Tamil Nadu Forest Department recently commenced a three-day-long elephant census at Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve.
- Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve is located at the junction of the Eastern and Western Ghatsin the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, in the Erode District of Tamil Nadu.
World Thyroid Day 2024:
- World Thyroid Day is observed annually on May 25th to raise awareness about the thyroid gland and the various conditions that affect it.
- The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of the neck, just below the Adam’s apple.
AstroSat Mission:
- A team of Indian astrophysicists has used observations from AstroSat to discover the aperiodic modulation of high-energy X-ray photons in Swift J1727.8-1613, a black hole binary source.
- AstroSat Mission is the first dedicated Indian astronomy mission aimed at studying celestial sources in the X-ray, optical and UV spectral bands simultaneously.

- Using NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and many other telescopes, two teams of astronomers have discovered a temperate, Earth-sized exoplanet named Gliese 12b.
