Ministry of Steel Launches SIMS 2.0 Portal & 2nd Volume of Safety Guidelines for Iron & Steel Sector Book:
- Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Ministry of Steel launched the Steel Importing Monitoring System (SIMS) 2.0 portal, a dedicated portal for providing advanced information about steel imports.
- He also released the 2nd volume of the book, “Safety Guidelines for Iron and Steel Sector,” covering 16 processes used by the iron and steel sector.
MoC Releases Commemorative Stamp On 100th Birth Anniversary of Playback Singer Mukesh:
- The Ministry of Culture (MoC) released the commemorative stamp in honour of the legendary Indian Playback Singer Mukesh Chand Mathur marking his Centenary (100th) birth anniversary (July 22 2024).
- The commemorative stamp symbolises Mukesh’s remarkable career and unforgettable voice.
Hunger Affected Around 9% of World Population in 2023: UN’s SOFI 2024 Report
- According to the latest United Nation(UN) report titled “State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) 2024: Financing to end hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in all its forms”, around 733 million people faced hunger in 2023, which is equivalent to 1 in 11 people (approx. 9%) globally and 1 in 5 in Africa.
IAEA Partners with UNOSSC to Boost South-South Cooperation for Sustainable Development:
- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced a new collaborative agreement with United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) aimed to enhance their joint efforts to give boost to sustainable development through South-South and triangular cooperation.
RBI revamps regulatory framework for domestic money transfer services:
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revised the framework for Domestic Money Transfer (DMT) services by regulated entities.
- RBI has made Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements more stringent.
- The new changes in the framework will come into effect from 1st November 2024.
- This is in line with RBI’s efforts to counter and prevent the misuse of banking channels for online fraud.
TOLIC Awarded Rajbhasha Gaurav Samman, and Nagar Rajbhasha Samman:
- Town Official Language Implementation Committee-TOLIC (PSU/Public Sector Undertaking), Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP) presented the prestigious ‘Rajbhasha Gaurav Samman’ for the year 2023-24 to the PSUs located in Visakhapatnam for their outstanding performance in Official Language implementation and ‘Nagar Rajbhasha Samman’ for the year 2022-23 to the Hindi Officers & Coordinators of the respective organizations .
- The awards were presented by Atul Bhatt, Chairman, TOLIC (PSU), Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh(AP) & Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), Visakhapatnam, AP.
Paris Olympics 2024: Nita Ambani Re-elected as IOC Member:
- Nita Ambani, the founder of Reliance Foundation has been re-elected for a second term as the member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from India ahead of the Paris Olympics to be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
- She received 100% of the vote at the 142nd IOC session is held from 22 to 24 July in Paris, France.
IOC Elects French Alps to Host 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games & Salt Lake City–Utah to Host 2034 Edition:
- During the 142nd International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session held in Paris, France, IOC members elected French Alps (known as Alpes françaises) in France as the host of the XXVI Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2030, and Salt Lake City (SLC)-Utah of the United States of America (USA) as the host of the XXVII Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2034.
Sri Lanka Clinch Maiden Women’s Asia Cup Title with Comprehensive Win over India:
- Sri Lanka secured their first-ever Women’s Asia Cup title on Sunday, defeating the defending champions India in front of an ecstatic home crowd.
- This victory marks a significant milestone in Sri Lankan women’s cricket history and ends India’s long-standing dominance in the tournament.
Manu Bhaker’s Historic Bronze Medal at Paris Olympics 2024:
- Manu Bhaker won a bronze medal for India in the women’s 10m air pistol shooting event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
- This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone as Bhaker becomes the first Indian woman to win a shooting medal at the Olympic Games.
Government Setting Up 7 PM MITRA Parks With World Class Infrastructure:
- The Government has approved setting up of 7 (Seven) PM Mega Integrated Textile Region. Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks in Greenfield/Brownfield sites (including a Greenfield project in Virudhanagar Tamil Nadu) with world class infrastructure including plug and play facility with an outlay of Rs. 4,445 cr for a period of seven years upto 2027-28.
