RBI Launches PRAVAAH, Retail Direct Mobile App, and FinTech Repository:

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has unveiled three major initiatives: the Pravaah portal, the Retail Direct Mobile App, and a FinTech Repository.

Reliance Industries to Begin Construction on India’s First Multimodal Logistics Park Near Chennai:

  • Reliance Industries is set to begin construction on India’s first Multimodal Logistics Park at Mappedu near Chennai in June, a project conceptualized 12 years ago.
  • Despite initial setbacks, the project, valued at Rs 1,424 crore and spanning 184.27 acres in Tiruvallur district, is now ready to proceed.

RBI Conducts Massive Liquidity Infusion Through Variable Rate Repo Auctions:

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken proactive measures to address the prevailing liquidity deficit in the banking system.

International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers:

  • The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers on May 29 pays tribute to the unwavering commitment and sacrifices of uniformed personnel and civilians serving the organization’s cause of peace.
  • Marking the day holds deep meaning – appreciating their invaluable contributions and honoring the over 4,000 who have died on duty since 1948.
  • The 2024 theme is ‘Fit for the future, building better together‘.

2023 Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award:

  • Indian Army Major Radhika Sen has been selected to receive the 2023 Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award.
  • The award recognizes her advocacy for women and girls while serving as a peacekeeper.

SBI Research says India’s GDP growth is likely to touch 8% in the financial year 2024

  • The State Bank of India (SBI) yesterday released a report anticipating India’s GDP growth of 7.4% in the fourth quarter of the financial year 2023-24, while the overall growth could touch 8%.
  • The report released by the SBI’s Economic Research department highlights the potential impact of global economic resilience on India’s growth trajectory.

SEBI Mandates Social Enterprises on SSE to Submit Annual Impact Report for FY24:

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has instructed the social enterprises who have registered or raised funds through Social Stock Exchange (SSE) to submit an ‘Annual Impact Report’ for the fiscal year 2023-24 to the exchange by the end of October 2024.
  • In September 2023, SEBI required the social enterprises that raised funds through SSE to disclose the annual impact report within 90 days from the end of financial year.

Government Set to Launch New National Portal “NHCX” to Simplify Health Insurance Claims:

  • Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) is set to launch a unified portal named National Health Claim Exchange (NHCX) to simplify the process of filing health insurance claims.
  • It aims to foster transparency and ensure interoperability of health insurance claims and help to enhance the efficiency of the health insurance sector.
  • The portal is expected to be launched in next 2 or 3 months.

RBI Imposes Monetary Penalty on ICICI Bank, Yes Bank For Rule Violations:

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1 crore on ICICI Bank Limited for sanctioning term loans to certain entities to replace budgetary resources for specific projects without proper due diligence.
  • ICICI Bank was imposed a penalty for non-compliance of ‘Loans and Advances – Statutory and Other Restrictions’.
  • It has approved the loans without conducting thorough due diligence on the viability and bankability of the projects.
  • The repayment of these loans were paid from budgetary resources and the bank did not ensure that the funding proposals were for specific monitorable projects.

RIL Partners With NIL:

  • Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has entered into a technology licensing agreement with Norway based Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser AS, a fully-owned subsidiary of Norway-based Nel ASA, aimed at accelerating its investments to make electrolysers, particularly for production of green hydrogen.

DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat Gets One Year Extension in Service:

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Defence(MoD) to extend the tenure of Dr. Samir Venkatapathy Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D), MoD, and Chairman of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) by one year beyond the age of superannuation(31st May 2024).
  • He will continue in his present position till 31st May 2025.

Archery World Cup 2024:

  • India won 2 medals (1 gold and 1 silver) in the Archery World Cup 2024 Stage 2 held from 21st to 26th May 2024 in Yecheon, Republic of Korea(South Korea).
  • The Indian women’s compound team of Aditi Gopichand Swami, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Parneet Kaur won the gold medal defeating the Turkish team of Hazal Burun, Ayse Bera Suzer and Begum Yuva.
  • India’s mixed archery team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Priyansh won the silver medal. They were defeated by Olivia Dean and Sawyer Sullivan of the United States of America (USA) in the finals.

World Hunger Day 2024 – May 28:

  • World Hunger Day World Hunger Day is annually observed across the globe on 28th May to raise awareness about the condition of millions of people, who do not have access to proper food.
  • The day aims to unite the global community to amplify the voices of those facing hunger and to end world hunger.
  • The 2024 campaign theme of World Hunger Day is, “Thriving Mothers. Thriving World.”

  • The strongest earthquake to hit Italy’s Campi Flegrei supervolcano region in decades struck recently.
  • Campi Flegrei is an active volcanic area located in the vicinity of Naples, Italy.
  • Unlike the nearby Mount Vesuvius, Campi Flegrei is not characterised by a single volcano.

ZiG : Reserve Bank Of Zimbabwe

  • To address its long-standing economic instability, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has launched a new gold-backed currency called the ZiG.
  • The Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) is a new gold-backed currency launched by Zimbabwe.
  • The ZiG, now the sixth currency used by Zimbabwe, has been in circulation since April 5, 2024.

Oedocladium sahyadricum:

  • A group of phycologists from the Department of Botany at Catholicate College in Pathanamthitta has discovered a new algal species in the Western Ghats.
  • Oedocladium sahyadricum is a new algal species and it is named as Oedocladium sahyadricum.

INS Kiltan:

  • Indian Naval Ship Kiltan arrived at Muara, Brunei and was accorded a warm welcome by the Royal Brunei Navy
  • INS Kiltan is an indigenously-built anti-submarine warfare stealth corvette.

Virupaksha Temple : Restoration Work

  • The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is set to begin restoration work on the collapsed saalu mantapa or pavilion (a type of Mandapa) at the iconic Virupaksha temple aPrauda Deva Raya part of the Group of Monuments at Hampi, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Virupaksha Temple is the 7th-century Shiva temple in Hampi, Central Karnataka.

Manama Declaration:

  • The Arab League called for UN peacekeeping forces in the Palestinian territories during a summit in Manama, Bahrain.
  • The “Manama Declaration” (Manama is the capital and largest city of Bahrain) urged international protection and UN peacekeeping forces in the occupied Palestinian territories until a two-state solution is achieved.

National Fossil Park In Ghugwa : Madhya Pradesh

  • Archaeologists from Ashoka University recently unearthed prehistoric artefacts made from fossil wood at the National Fossil Park in Ghugwa, Madhya Pradesh.
  • Ghughwa National Fossil Park located in the Dindori district, Madhya Pradesh, was established as a National Park in 1983.
