RBI cancels license of Kolhapur-based Shankarrao Pujari Nutan Nagari Sahakari Bank:
- Shankarrao Pujari Nutan Nagari Sahakari Bank Limited, Ichalkaranji, Kolhapur is prohibited from conducting the business of ‘banking’ which includes, among other things, acceptance of deposits and repayment of deposits as defined in Section 5(b) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 with immediate effect, the Reserve Bank of India said.

- Cyclone Michaung is set to make landfall in southeast India.
- The storm is expected to cross the coast of Andhra Pradesh near Bapatla, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90 to 100 kilometers (56-62 miles) an hour, gusting to 110 kilometers.
JT-60SA: World’s Biggest Experimental Nuclear Fusion Reactor Inaugurated in Japan:
- JT-60SA, the world’s largest and most advanced nuclear fusion reactor started its official operations in Japan’s Ibaraki Prefecture.
- It is a joint initiative between the European Union and Japan.
- The JT-60SA reactor is a six-storey-high machine, which is kept in a hangar in Naka north of Tokyo.
Meghalaya’s Lakadong Turmeric gets Geographical Indication tag:
- Meghalaya’s Lakadong turmeric has been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
- Along with Lakadong turmeric, Garo Dakmanda (traditional dress), Larnai pottery, and Garo Chubitchi (alcoholic beverage) were also awarded the GI tag.
