Chhattisgarh Set to Introduce a More Stringent Anti-Conversion Law:
The Chhattisgarh government, led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, is planning to introduce a stricter anti-conversion law to curb illegal religious conversions in the state. Although the state already has the Chhattisgarh Freedom of Religion Act, 1968, Home Minister Vijay Sharma announced that a new law will be introduced to prevent conversions through alleged coercion, inducements, or “faith healing” gatherings. The move has sparked political discussions, with BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar raising concerns over NGOs allegedly receiving foreign funds for conversion activities. While the opposition claims that conversions are increasing due to a lack of control over these organizations, Sharma denied this and assured strict legal action against illegal conversions.
