Jharkhand Got New Governor: Santosh Kumar Gangwar

  • Former Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar was on July 31 sworn in as the 12th Governor of Jharkhand. Mr. Gangwar, 76, succeeded C.P. Radhakrishnan, who was appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra.

Shriram Capital Receives RBI Approval to Launch ARC:

  • Shriram Capital has received in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to establish an Asset Reconstruction Company (ARC).

Education Minister Launches NATS 2.0 and Disburses Rs. 100 Crore Stipends:

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has launched the National Apprenticeship and Training Scheme (NATS) 2.0 portal and disbursed Rs. 100 crore in stipends to apprentices via Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT).

BFI Sets Up The National Basketball Academy In Collaboration With CAA:

  • The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) has set up the National basketball academy in collaboration with Corvuss American Academy in Mumbai. For a start, the Academy will run with 30 boys and 30 girls from the school.

ICG Launches ‘Suvidha Software Version 1.0’ to Enhance Training Protocols:

  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) unveiled its new ‘Suvidha Software Version 1.0’ during the inaugural ‘Annual Operational Sea Training Conference’ held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on July 30, 2024.

Indian Army Launches E-SeHAT Tele-Consultancy for Veterans:

  • The Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) has introduced the Electronic Services e-Health Assistance and Tele-consultation (E-SeHAT) module as of July 30, 2024.
  • This initiative allows ECHS beneficiaries to receive online medical consultations from their homes, eliminating the need to visit ECHS Polyclinics.

Single National Software Network for PACS Computerization:

  • The Government of India is implementing a ₹2,516 Crore project for the computerization of functional Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS).

India Wins Big At International Physics, Chemistry Olympiads:

  • Indian students have secured two gold and three silver medals at the 54th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2024 held between July 21 and July 29 in Isfahan, Iran.

Jia Rai: Youngest & Fastest Para-Swimmer to Cross the English Channel

  • 16-year-old Jiya Rai from Mumbai has set a new world record as the youngest and fastest para-swimmer to cross the English Channel.
  • Suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder, Jiya completed her 34-kilometer swim from Abbot’s Cliff in England to Pointe de la Courte-Dune in France in 17 hours and 25 minutes on July 28-29, 2024.

3.5 lakh A.P. Farmers Benefited From PM Fasal Bima Yojana In 2022-23:

  • As many as 3,49,633 farmers benefited to the tune of ₹563 crore for the financial year 2022-23 under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting:

  • The Quad foreign ministers’ meeting in Tokyo saw Australia, India, Japan, and the US emphasise ending violence in Ukraine, Gaza, and Myanmar, and expressed their intention to expand the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) into the Indian Ocean Region.

9th Governing Council Meeting Of NITI Aayog:

  • The 9th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog, chaired by the Prime Minister, convened leaders from 20 states and 6 union territories to discuss the “Viksit Bharat @2047” theme, aiming to establish a framework for India’s development as a developed nation by 2047.
  • India aims to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2047, with a GDP target of USD 30 trillion.
  • This ambition highlights the country’s focus on sustained economic growth, innovation, and global competitiveness.

Zika Virus : Update

  • The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare recently said the government of India has formulated an action plan for managing Zika virus Disease.
  • Zika virus is a mosquito-borne virus, similar to dengue fever, yellow fever, and West Nile virus.

Liquidity Coverage Ratio : RBI

  • RBI recently issued the draft guidelines for banks on the Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR), essentially asking them to set aside higher stock of liquid securities as a buffer on deposits.
  • Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) refers to the proportion of highly liquid assets held by financial institutions to ensure that they maintain an ongoing ability to meet their short-term obligations (i.e., cash outflows for 30 days).

Nano-MIND Technology:

  • Researchers from the Korean Institute of Basic Science have developed a magnetogenetics technology named Nano Magnetogenetic Interface for NeuroDynamics (Nano-MIND) which has been demonstrated on mice
  • Nano-MIND (Magnetogenetic Interface for NeuroDynamics) technology, opens up new possibilities for understanding and manipulating complex brain functions such as cognition, emotion, and motivation.

  • The Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched Ideas4LiFE at IIT Delhi.
  • Ideas4LiFE portal was launched for inviting ideas related to products and services, which induce behavioral changes related to environment-friendly lifestyles.
