BFI agrees to become a member of World Boxing:
- The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has agreed to become a member of World Boxing, the International Federation established to ensure boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic Movement.
- The membership application has been approved by the BFI’s General Assembly and will be ratified by World Boxing’s Executive Board.
India’s GDP grows 8.2% in FY24 against 7% in FY23:
- India’s real GDP is estimated to grow by 8.2% in the Financial Year 2023-24 as compared to the growth rate of 7% registered in the Financial Year 2022-23.
- According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, real GDP, or GDP at constant prices is estimated to attain a level of over 173 lakh crore rupees in the year 2023-24.
Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion for 2024:
- The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru has been awarded the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion for 2024 by the World Health Organization (WHO).
- The institute is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Combined Index of Eight Core Industries increases by 6.2% (provisional) in April 2024 as compared to April 2023:
- The combined Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) increased by 6.2% (provisional) in April 2024 as compared to the Index in April 2023.
- The production of Electricity, Natural Gas, Coal, Steel, Refinery Products, Crude Oil, and Cement recorded positive growth in April 2024.
- The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27% of the weight of items included in IIP.
Reserve Bank of India cancels 10-year green bond auction:
- In a first, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday canceled the auction of 10-year green bonds as traders refused to pay greenium, said dealers.
- Greenium signifies the premium investors will pay for green bonds because of their sustainability impact.

- Dinesh Karthik, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

ISRO and Wipro 3D Collaborate on 3D-Printed Rocket Engine:
- Wipro 3D and ISRO have jointly developed and successfully tested a 3D-printed rocket engine for India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
- The engine, designed for the fourth stage (PS4), marks a significant advancement in additive manufacturing technology within India’s space program.

James Webb Space Telescope : Detecting The Most Distant Known Galaxy
- The James Webb Space Telescope has smashed its own record for detecting the most distant known galaxy.
- The galaxy called JADES-GS-z14-0, is revealed as it was just 290m years after the big bang, at the dawn of the universe.
Chang’e-6 : China
- China’s space agency said that China landed an uncrewed spacecraft on the far side of the moon on 2nd of June.
- The Chang’e-6 craft successfully landed in the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the back of the moon.
It is the first human sampling and return mission from the far side of the moon.
60th Meeting Of The Subsidiary Bodies:
- As the world gears up for the 29th Conference of Parties (COP) to UNFCCC later this year, Delhi-based think tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has called on developed countries to fulfill their financial obligations in the fight against climate change.
- The 60th meeting of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB60), will take place in Bonn, Germany from June 3-13, 2024.
Iris-T Missile:
- According to a recent report, the Bundeswehr, Germany’s armed forces, lost an Iris-T missile, sparking serious concerns about the crucial technology being compromised.
- Iris-T Missile is a next-generation short-range air-to-air missile.
- The IRIS-T is a six-nation program under German lead, with Diehl BGT Defence (a German defense company) acting as industrial prime contractor.

- Indian researchers recently discovered a new ant species named Paraparatrechina neela from Arunachal Pradesh’s remote Siang Valley.
- Paraparatrechina neela is a new ant species discovered from Siang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh.
- It belongs to the rare genus Paraparatrechina and has been named Paraparatrechina neela.
Genetically Modified Mosquitoes:
- Djibouti, a nation in East Africa, is taking a bold step in the fight against malaria by deploying genetically modified (GM) mosquitoes.
- This pilot program, launched in May 2024, marks a significant moment in the battle against this deadly disease.
