SEBI Forms Committee to Review Clearing Corporations:

  • SEBI has established a committee, chaired by Usha Thorat, former Deputy Governor of the RBI, to assess and propose enhancements to the ownership and economic framework of clearing corporations.

Bombay High Court Rules Against PSU Banks’ Power to Issue Look-Out Circulars:

  • The Bombay High Court declared that public sector banks lack the legal authority to issue Look Out Circulars (LOCs) against defaulting borrowers.
  • This verdict, based on a challenge to a clause in a government memorandum, invalidates all LOCs issued by such banks.

CBIC Chairperson inaugurates GST Bhawan at Rohtak, Haryana:

  • The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Chairman, HRI Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, officially launched the GST Bhawan, the official complex of the Central Board of Indirect Tax (CGST) Rohtak Commissionerate, in Rohtak, Haryana.

Om Birla Becomes First Lok Sabha Speaker in 20 Years to be Re-elected as MP:

  • Om Birla, the incumbent Lok Sabha Speaker, has achieved a remarkable feat by winning the Kota parliamentary seat on June 4, 2024.
  • With a resounding margin of 41,139 votes, Birla has become the first presiding officer in 20 years to be re-elected to the Lower House of Parliament.

Vice-Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade:

  • Rakesh Mohan Joshi, an international trade and management expert, has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), a prestigious business school under the Ministry of Commerce

South Korea Establishes National Space Agency, KASA:

  • South Korea has officially launched its space agency, the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA), to lead policy and industrial development in its aerospace sector.

MoHFW Signed MoU with MoD To Set Up Dedicated Tele MANAS Cell For Armed Forces:

  • The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to facilitate collaboration in operating a special Tele MANAS Cell.
  • Tele MANAS Cell, the National Telemental Health Helpline of MoHFW, is a pilot project for a period of two years at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune (Maharashtra).

SC Reconstitutes Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee, Appoints Justice Hima Kohli as Chairperson:

  • The Chief Justice of India (CJI) of the Supreme Court (SC) re-constituted Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC). Justice Hima Kohli has been appointed as Chairperson to head the committee.

QS World University Rankings 2025:

  • According to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2025, the Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Bombay, Mumbai (Maharashtra) and IIT Delhi, New Delhi (Delhi) are the only two Indian Institutes featured among the top 150 Universities on the ranking.
  • IIT-B has retained its position as the best higher education Institute in India, with global ranking of 118th in the list. IIT Delhi has improved its rank from 197th (in 2024) to 150th position (in 2025).
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, the United States of America (USA) has topped the list globally for the 13th time (2012 and from 2014 to 2025).

ILO’s World Employment and Social Outlook:

  • According to the International Labour Organization’s (ILO), World Employment and Social Outlook: May 2024 Update, the 2024 global unemployment is projected at 4.9% in 2024, slightly lower than the 5.0% in 2023, contrary to the prior projection (World Employment and Social Outlook Trends 2024 report) of 5.2%.
  • The downward trend in joblessness is anticipated to stabilise in 2025, with unemployment persisting at 4.9%.

Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah Sworn in As Crown Prince of Kuwait:

  • Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah was officially sworn in as the Crown Prince of Kuwait before the Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah(head of state of Kuwait).
  • The sworn-in ceremony was held following an Emiri order which formally nominated Sheikh Sabah as the Crown Prince of Kuwait.

International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing 2024: June 5 2024

  • The United Nations (UN)’s International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing is annually observed across the globe on 5th June to address the issue of IUU fishing activities, one of the greatest threats to marine ecosystems.
  • 5th June 2024 marks the observance of the 7th International Day for the Fight Against IUU Fishing.

  • SRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) develops PraVaHa (Parallel RANS Solver for Aerospace Vehicle Aero-thermo-dynamic Analysis), a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software for aerodynamic design and analysis of aerospace vehicles.

Mission Karmayogi:

  • Indian Institute of Public Administration assessed the impact of mission karmayogi by seeking inputs on recently trained staff from their supervisors and reported increased proficiency in data analytics and e-governance tools.

Wheat Imports : After 6 Years Gap

  • India, the world’s second-largest wheat producer, plans to begin wheat imports after a six-year gap to replenish depleted reserves and control rising prices, driven by three consecutive years of disappointing crops.

India’s Third-Largest Export Market In The Fiscal Year 2023–24 : Netherland

  • The Netherlands became India’s third-largest export market in the fiscal year 2023–24, after the US and the UAE.
  • This was the case even though India’s total exports of goods fell by 3%, according to reports from the Commerce Ministry.

  • Priyanka Jarkiholi, running for the Congress party, beat Annasaheb Jolle, the sitting MP for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in the Chikkodi district, which was a big win for her.
