Bank of Baroda to Raise ₹7,500 Crore Through AT1 and Tier 2 Bonds:

  • Bank of Baroda (BoB) plans to raise up to ₹7,500 crore through Additional Tier-I (AT1) and Tier-II bonds to meet regulatory requirements and support business growth

Philippines and Japan have taken a big step in their security relationship:

  • They signed a new deal that allows their military forces to enter each other’s countries more easily.
  • This comes at a time when there are growing concerns in the Indo-Pacific region.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal Announces Concessions in Licensing Fees:

  • Union Minister Piyush Goyal has announced an 80% reduction in licensing fees for women entrepreneurs and a 50% reduction for MSMEs under the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO).

  • Elisa de Anda Madrazo of Mexico has assumed the presidency of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for a two-year term from July 2024 to June 2026.

India Unveils Indigenous Light Tank ‘Zorawar’:

  • India has unveiled the ‘Zorawar’ light tank, developed jointly by DRDO and Larsen & Toubro, aimed at bolstering military capabilities in high-altitude environments.

ADB and AHFL Partner to Expand Housing Loans for Low-Income Women:

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has entered into a $60 million financing agreement with Aadhar Housing Finance Limited (AHFL) to provide housing loans to women in India.

  • India, a vibrant center of artistic expression, has a rich history of public art reflecting its cultural and spiritual diversity. Project PARI (Public Art of India), initiated by the Ministry of Culture and executed by Lalit Kala Akademi and the National Gallery of Modern Art, seeks to blend India’s millennia-old artistic heritage.

  • Jon Landau, the Oscar-winning producer known for his collaborations with director James Cameron on blockbuster films like Titanic and the Avatar series, has died at the age of 63.

WEP & TransUnion CIBIL Partner to Launch SEHER Program to Empower Women Entrepreneurs:

  • The Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) and TransUnion CIBIL Limited (Formerly: Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited), have partnered to launch SEHER, a credit education program aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs in India with financial literacy, credit education, and business skills to enhance their access to financial tools and drive economic growth.

Dr. Jitendra Singh Launches InFLiMeN Network to Combat Fatty Liver Disease:

  • Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), launched the Indo-French Liver and Metabolic Diseases Network (InFLiMeN) at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in New Delhi, Delhi.

GoI Makes ISI Mark Mandatory for Stainless steel & Aluminium Kitchen Utensils:

  • The Government of India (GoI) has mandated the Indian Standards Institution (ISI) mark for stainless steel and aluminium kitchen utensils to conform to the national quality standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
  • The ISI mark developed by the BIS is aimed at assuring product quality and safety, enhancing customer safety.

RBI Penalizes 5 Banks, including PNB for Regulatory Non-Compliance:

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that it has penalized 5 banks, including Punjab National Bank (PNB), in the circular issued in the 1st week of July for non-compliance with various RBI directions.
  • Before PNB, 4 other banks which were penalized by RBI: Gujarat Rajya Karmachari Co-operative Bank, Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Rohika Central Co-operative Bank, Madhubani (Bihar); National Co-operative Bank, Mumbai (Maharashtra); and Bank Employees’ Co-operative Bank, Kolkata (West Bengal).

President Droupadi Murmu Conferred 10 Kirti Chakras, 26 Shaurya Chakras:

  • President of India, Droupadi Murmu conferred 36 Peacetime Gallantry Awards including, 10 Kirti Chakras, of which 7 were given posthumously and 26 Shaurya Chakras, of which 7 were given posthumously to the personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and State or Union Territory (UT) Police.
