Musical Instrument Mandar : GI Tag
Jharkhand’s traditional folk percussion instrument, the ‘Mandar’, has officially been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai.It is a traditional, centuries-old double-headed barrel/cylindrical folk drum (percussion instrument) crafted primarily from red clay and leather, recognized as one of the oldest musical heritage instruments of eastern India.Across Jharkhand (prominently across the Chotanagpur plateau), with its traditional artisanal production centered in Jarjatta village, Raidih block, Gumla district, where generational families preserve the craft.
