International Albinism Awareness Day 2024:

  • On December 18, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution establishing June 13th as International Albinism Awareness Day.
  • 2024 marks a decade since the launch of International Albinism Awareness Day! To mark this occasion, this year’s theme is “10 years of IAAD: A decade of collective progress”.

United Nations Declares 2025 As The Year To Focus On Quantum Advancements:

  • The United Nations proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ).
  • According to the proclamation, this year-long, worldwide initiative will “be observed through activities at all levels aimed at increasing public awareness of the importance of quantum science and applications.”

Global Gender Gap Index:

  • India has slipped two places on the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index to 129th place, while Iceland retained its top position in the rankings published.
  • Within South Asia, India was ranked fifth after Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan, while Pakistan was ranked last.

Vidyut Rakshak:

  • The Indian Army has launched ‘Vidyut Rakshak’, an integrated generator monitoring, protection, and control system developed by the Army Design Bureau.
  • This tech-based innovation, part of the Army’s ‘Year of Tech Absorption’, utilizes Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor, predict faults, and automate manual operations of all existing generators, regardless of type.

Japan-India maritime exercise commences at Yokosuka:

  • Japan-India maritime exercise (JIMEX 24) commenced at Yokosuka in Japan. According to the Indian Navy, during the exercise, the navies of both countries will jointly hone their warfighting skills at sea and enhance their interoperability.
  • Indian Navy’s Indigenous Stealth Frigate INS Shivalik is participating in the bilateral maritime exercise.

Sarod maestro Rajeev Taranath passes away at 91:

  • Sarod maestro of international repute Rajeev Taranath has passed away in Mysuru.
  • A disciple of Ali Akbar Khan, the reputed Sarod player Taranath had enthralled the audience across different continents.
  • He has composed music for many internationally acclaimed Kannada films including Samskara, Kanchana Sita, and Kadavu.

Odisha’s first BJP CM:

  • Four-time MLA Mohan Charan Majhi was named the next chief minister of Odisha by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
  • BJP leader Mohan Charan Majhi took oath as the Chief Minister of Odisha, in Bhubaneswar. Governor Raghubar Das administered him the oath to office.

TCS ranks 46, Infosys at 74 in Kantar’s most valuable brand report:

  • IT bellwether Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is the most valuable Indian brand, ranked 46th globally, followed by Infosys at number 74, according to Kantar BrandZ’s Most Valuable Global Brands report.
  • TCS is ranked 16th in the top 20 business technology and services platforms, and Infosys at 20th.

Assam Launches ‘Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina’ Scheme to Promote Girl Education:

  • The Assam government has taken a commendable step towards promoting girl education and addressing the issue of child marriage in the state.
  • On June 12, 2024, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the launch of the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina (MMNM) scheme, which was approved by the Assam government cabinet.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister:

  • Pema Khandu of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took the oath as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the third consecutive time.

Ajit Doval Reappointed National Security Adviser (NSA):

  • The Centre on June 13 reappointed former IPS officer Ajit Doval as the National Security Adviser (NSA).
  • His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or until further orders.

World Blood Donor Day: 14th June 2024

  • The world will unite to commemorate World Blood Donor Day, an annual event that recognizes the incredible contributions of voluntary blood donors.
  • This year’s theme, “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors!”

Motilal Oswal AMC Introduced Nifty India Defence Index:

  • Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company Limited (MOAMC) introduced Motilal Oswal Nifty India Defence Index Fund, India’s 1st index fund offering exposure to defence stocks listed in India.
  • The New Fund Offer (NFO) for the scheme will be open for subscription from 13th June, 2024 till 24th June 2024.

Harsh Pati Singhania Elected as Fist Vice-Chair of International Chamber of Commerce:

  • Harsh Pati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of JK Paper Ltd and Director of JK Organisation, has been elected as the First Vice-Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) headquartered in Paris, France.
  • Philippe Varin, a global industry leader, has been elected as Chair of the ICC. Philippe Varin succeeded Maria Fernanda Garza, who becomes the Honorary Chair of ICC.

FICCI Announced the Appointment of Jyoti Vij as its DG:

  • The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) announced the appointment of Jyoti Vij as its Director General (DG). She will assume the charge of the FICCI Secretariat with immediate effect.
  • At present, she is serving as Additional DG at FICCI.
  • While, Shailesh Pathak resigned from the post of Secretary General at the FICCI due to his personal reasons.

Indian Navy Launches ‘5th MCA Barge, LSAM 13 (Yard 81)’ at Maharashtra:

  • The Indian Navy (IN) launched the Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge, LSAM 13 (Yard 81), the fifth Barge of 08 x MCA Barge project, built by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Shipyard, M/s SECON Engineering Projects Private Limited (SEPPL), Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

India to Host FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup in 2025:

  • India will host the 14th edition of the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025.
  • The decision was taken by the Executive Board of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
  • The tournament will be played in December 2025.

Ravichandran Ashwin Unveils Autobiography ‘I Have the Streets A Kutti Cricket Story’:

  • Renowned Indian international cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin unveiled his autobiography titled, “I Have the Streets A Kutti Cricket Story,” written by Ravichandran Ashwin with author Sidharth Monga, a sitcom screenplay writer, a wrestling booker, and a chef.

High Seas Biodiversity Treaty:

  • Grethel Aguilar, the director general of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), urged countries worldwide “to strive for a fully functional High Seas Biodiversity Treaty”.

  • Chief Minister M.K. Stalin started the “Chief Minister’s Mannuyir Kaathu Mannuyir Kaappom” plan, which was a big step toward sustainable farming in Tamil Nadu.

  • Four medical students from Maharashtra studying at a university in Russia drowned in the river Volkhov near St. Petersburg.
  • The Volkhov River is in northwestern Russia.
  • It flows from Lake Ilmen, passes through Novgorod, and goes north-northeast into Lake Ladoga through a flat, swampy area.

Greater Spotted Eagles:

  • A recent report revealed that the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has forced greater spotted eagles, a large raptor species, to change their migratory paths.
  • It is a member of the subfamily Aquilinae, commonly known as “booted eagles”.
  • It was once classified as a member of the genus Aquila, but has been reclassified to the distinct genus Clanga, along with the two other species of spotted eagle.

A rare four-horned antelope has been sighted for the first time in the Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve:

  • Four-horned antelope, also known as Chousingha is a small bovid antelope found in Asia. Unique for its four horns, only males bear them, with one pair between the ears and another on the forehead.

The Telangana High Court has ruled against a taxpayer against whom the revenue department had invoked the General Anti-avoidance Rule (GAAR):

  • GAAR is an anti-tax avoidance law in India to curb tax evasion and avoid tax leaks.
  • It came into effect on 1st April 2017.
