During his visit to Johannesburg in South Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 15th BRICS Summit.

- The British Economist Jim O’Neill coined the term “BRIC” in 2001 to describe the four emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, and China.
- Chairmanship rotates annually among the members, in accordance with the acronym B-R-I-C-S.
- Together, BRICS accounts for about 40% of the world’s population and about 30% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product), 16% of the global trade.
